Making Money Online: Choosing a Website Name
Something of great importance is the name you choose to give your website - because once you've chosen it and have a few incoming links it's not so easy to change the name. I learnt this the hard way!
When I started out with my first web-site, BreastfeedingMums.com, I believed the name of the site absolutely had to tie into the topic of the site. Unfortunately I didn't think that maybe I would eventually tire of writing about breastfeeding and want to write about other things instead! Whilst I have no doubt the name I chose has helped me in terms of seo for my website, it hinders me in other ways in that it probably prevents people who aren't intending on breastfeeding their babies from visiting - even though much of the site now covers areas such as pregnancy, potty training, infertility, baby names and so on!
I'm not saying you should choose something obscure but if you sit down and have a look at some of the biggest sites out there, their names often give little or no indication of what the site is selling. For example, Amazon, Napster, YouTube...
So, choose the name of your website wisely and choose carefully!
