Making Money Online - Choosing Your Niche
Research your competition and choose a niche you believe you can offer something to.
When I was deciding what my first website would focus on, I settled on breastfeeding since I was breastfeeding my third baby at that point in time. It was a topic I was passionate about and one I enjoyed talking about. So that was it... I'd run a breastfeeding website.
In hindsight, whilst it has certainly become a large site, much larger than I had ever envisioned at the beginning, it was probably a bit too niche to make any sort of decent income from. It was only when I began to broaden the focus of my site that the money started to follow.
One way in which you can help settle on a niche is to use some keyword research tools to see how many people are searching for particular topics. I quickly realised that a lot more people were looking for pregnancy and baby information than breastfeeding and as a result I had to broaden my horizons quite a bit.
To help yourself decide, make a list of all the areas you think you can comfortably cover in your niche area and if you're running out of ideas quickly then you probably need to approach it from a different angle.
